San Francisco's ongoing battle with property crime witnessed a measure of justice as District Attorney Brooke Jenkins declared the conviction of Header Cauich, aged 34. In what appeared to be a straightforward case of attempted burglary in the Lower Haight District, a jury found Mr. Cauich guilty of several charges. According to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office, the offenses included attempted first-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools, and providing false identification to a peace officer.

"The jury's verdict holds Mr. Cauich accountable and sends a message that San Franciscans will not tolerate brazen criminal activity," District Attorney Jenkins remarked as per the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. Riding on the coattails of her office's successful prosecution, Ms. Jenkins vowed to continue fighting to ensure that the criminal justice system delivers justice to victims of crime and works to make our community safer.

Details from the trial reveal that on the early morning of September 8, 2023, Mr. Cauich's act was caught on a surveillance camera as he used a torch-style lighter to shatter a garage window. Located in the 100 block of Page Street, the burglary was foiled due to homeowner precautions that rendered the garage impenetrable. While investigating another burglary on the same street, SFPD officers managed to connect Mr. Cauich to this incident despite not being able to make the break-in due to the garage's fortitude.

Mr. Cauich is presently in custody, and his sentencing is pending. The successful prosecution team included Assistant District Attorney Abigail P. Adams and District Attorney Investigator Timothy Louie, along with the paralegal and IT support from Rayna Bryan, Aareona Miles, Noaeh Pinaire, Ada Yu, and intern Jaya Sood.
