Tragedy struck on Tully Road in San José as a female bicyclist was fatally injured in a vehicular collision on Thursday evening. The San José Police Department reported that at approximately 6:26 PM, two bicyclists were crossing the road outside a crosswalk when the incident occurred. A westbound white Ford Transit van, to avoid one of the cyclists, collided with the adult female rider.
In the aftermath of the collision, the woman was swiftly transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead. The male cyclist was not reported to have been injured in the accident. The driver of the van remained on the scene and cooperated fully with the authorities, and, at this time, no arrests or charges have been reported in connection with the incident.
The fatality marks the 25th traffic-related death in San José for the year 2024, a sobering statistic that reflects the continuous need for awareness and safety on the roads. The San José Police Department's Traffic Investigations Unit is leading the investigation. According to the official press release, further details about the victim will be disclosed pending notification of kin by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office.
