San Jose has witnessed its 27th fatal traffic collision this year, marking the city's persistent struggle with road safety. According to the San Jose Police Department, the incident occurred on Sunday, when an adult male pedestrian was tragically struck by a 2019 white Toyota Highlander as it rolled out of an apartment complex driveway onto S. 11th Street. Early findings indicate the vehicle was moving at a slow pace northbound, and the pedestrian was already lying in the roadway when the collision happened.
The aftermath of the incident saw the pedestrian rushed to a local hospital, yet despite efforts to save his life, he succumbed to his critical injuries, as reported by the San Jose Police Department.
In the wake of the tragedy, the driver of the Highlander remained at the scene and has been cooperating with law enforcement's investigation into the circumstances of the fatal incident.
Detective DelliCarpini of the San José Police Department's Traffic Investigations Unit is heading the inquiry, urging anyone holding information about the case to come forward. The Santa Clara County Coroner's Office will be releasing the identity of the victim once protocols are followed.
