
A tragic incident unfolded on Lake Michigan Friday evening when a boat carrying passengers capsized near 31st Street Beach. According to the Chicago Tribune, the accident took place around 7:30 p.m. near the 3100 block of South DuSable Lake Shore Drive. Chicago Police stated that there were more than a dozen passengers aboard.
The search for the missing passengers was promptly initiated by the Chicago Police Department. In the mishap, 15 individuals were rescued, but, an adult male remains missing. According to reports by WGN-TV, the Chicago Fire Department transported three of the rescued - a man and two women - to Insight Hospital, all of whom were in good condition.
Despite the quick response and rescue efforts, authorities are still searching for the one person unaccounted for. "As of 9 p.m., police said the marine unit’s search remained active" and Chicago Fire Department spokesperson Larry Langford disclosed around 9:15 that the search was ongoing, as reported by the Chicago Tribune. Officials have not yet released details regarding what caused the boat to capsize.
CPD’s Marine Unit continues their investigation into the incident, amid the continued search for the missing individual. No new information regarding the missing person or the circumstances surrounding the capsize has been made available, at the time this article was written.
