The search for the individuals responsible for the shooting of a Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) trooper has ended with the arrest of a second suspect. Timothy L. Davis Jr. was apprehended in Davidson County and is currently en route to the Putnam County Jail to face charges. This development follows the recent capture of the first suspect, Braze Rucker, in Kentucky. According to WSMV, Davis Jr. was arrested last night due to concerted efforts by the Metro Nashville Police Department and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
In an act symbolizing justice for their injured colleague, officers placed Trooper Adam Cothron's handcuffs upon Davis Jr. "He will wear these handcuffs on his way to booking", THP communicated, expressing thanks for the support rendered to Trooper Cothron and his family during this ordeal. The shooting occurred during a traffic stop on Interstate 40 near the Willow Avenue exit, as was first reported by WKRN. Rucker, the identified passenger of the white Kia Forte, was pulled over by Cothron, and the unidentified driver fled the scene and later abandoned the vehicle near Highway 109 in Gallatin.
Meanwhile, community support for Cothron and his family has been strong, with several donation avenues being promoted. As WKRN has detailed, people wishing to contribute can contact Brandon Janco or donate directly through Venmo. Checks can also be mailed to USPCA Region 13 or dropped off at designated police stations throughout the Middle Tennessee area. Citizens Bank has additionally set up an account to facilitate aid to the trooper's family.
Trooper Cothron is currently in stable condition following the incident. Both suspects are now in custody, and more details on the case are expected to emerge following a press conference that officials have scheduled for tomorrow morning. The arrest of Davis Jr. and Rucker brings the case to a critical juncture, reflecting the relentless pursuit of law enforcement to uphold safety and accountability on our highways.
