Chicago is grappling with a series of shootings that injured four teenage boys in a brief period on Saturday afternoon. As reported by the Chicago Tribune, the string of violence began just after 3:30 p.m. in the South Chicago neighborhood, where a 14-year-old and a 15-year-old boy, found near a sidewalk on the 2900 block of East 82nd Street, were hit by gunfire in their backs.
Shortly later, under an hour apart from the previous incident, two more boys fell victim to a separate shooting. ABC7 Chicago detailed that these teens, aged 15 and 17, were standing near the sidewalk in Grand Crossing's 7000 block of South Vincennes Avenue when shots rang out from a passing vehicle. Struck in the abdomen, the younger boy sustained serious injuries, while the older boy escaped with a graze wound to his arm.
All four boys were promptly taken to Comer Children's Hospital. According to police, the victims were in good condition. However, as of now, there have been no arrests made in connection with either of the incidents. The authorities' efforts to apprehend the assailants continue as they look for leads in what appears to be indiscriminate gunfire shaking up the South Side community.
The investigations into these shootings are ongoing. Police have not yet shed light on the possible motives behind the attacks or if there is any affiliation between the victims themselves. The authorities urge anyone with information to step forward.
