The Shelby County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating the death of Jerome Mimes, a 49-year-old inmate. Mimes passed away on Monday at the Shelby County Jail located at 201 Poplar, as reported by Local Memphis.
Mimes had been incarcerated on misdemeanor shoplifting charges after allegedly stealing $92 worth of baby formula in Germantown, according to the Germantown Police Department who said he also had outstanding warrants for his arrest due to failure to appear in court and theft of property, according to Action News 5.
Mimes was held in the Germantown Police Department’s 72-hour holding facility before being transferred to the Shelby County Jail as he was unable to post bond, as per Local Memphis. Detectives indicated that there are no signs of foul play involved in Mimes' death, an idea that is still pending confirmation from the official cause of death, which will be determined by the medical examiner.
