The Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) announced a seasonal discounter on all-day parking in its SmartPark garages, making it more wallet-friendly to participate in downtown festivities.
From July 1 to September 30, 2024, visitors can take advantage of reduced parking rates during weekdays between the hours of 5 a.m. and 5 p.m., a move reflecting the current underutilized state of the garages. Boasting nearly 4,000 parking spaces, the SmartPark garages are strategically placed to facilitate easy access to businesses and cultural locales, in an attempt to foster a thriving downtown economy. Transportation Director Millicent Williams, emphasized the importance of these rates, stating, "A thriving downtown is critical for achieving the city’s long-term transportation system multimodal goals," in a statement published by the Portland government website.
This summer pricing strategy is part of a larger plan to invigorate downtown Portland, making it a bustling hub of activities safe for everyone.
