Residents and visitors in Solana Beach should brace for a busy weekend ahead, as the Solana Beach Triathlon, Duathlon & Aquabike are set to commence. The event, hosting 900 athletes with an additional 200 spectators expected, will prompt several road closures to accommodate the competitors' courses. These closures will take effect primarily on July 28, from the early hours until approximately 10:30 AM, as reported by the City of Solana Beach. Motorists are encouraged to plan their routes and allow for extra travel time to navigate around the event footprint.
The organizers, KOZ Events, promise an "epic day" in the picturesque setting of Fletcher Cove at Solana Beach, where participants participate in various multi-discipline races. Starting with a surf-entry ocean swim and followed by cycling and running down the scenic Pacific Coast Highway, competitors will culminate their efforts with a tunnel of high-fives at the finish line.
According to the advisory, significant road closures will affect South Acacia Street, Hwy 101, Lomas Santa Fe, and Plaza Street, with detours managed by the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. These closures will permit the safe progression of the triathlon and duathlon events along the predetermined routes.
