Residents in St. Louis Park should brace for a short construction pause followed by continued efforts to revamp the city's alleys. The latest dispatch from the St. Louis Park officials indicates that GL Contracting will momentarily down tools for a brief respite from July 4 through July 7. Residents keen to keep abreast of developments can consult the project update published on July 5th, detailing the plans for Alley B and beyond.
Come Monday, July 8, GL Contracting is set to aggressively resume work, focusing on removing the aged asphalt layer in preparation to lay down new concrete, weather willing. Residents should note that solid waste receptacles would need to be relocated to the front of homes during this phase to preclude any construction hiccups. According to the latest communication, "Work will continue to remove the old asphalt surface and prep the alley for concrete."
The project scope extends past Alley B. GL Contracting is charting a course to commence work on Alleys E and F, located south of 14th Street, the week of July 15, with detailed notices scheduled to be dispatched prior to the closures. These notifications intend to give ample time for resident vehicle removal.
Residents inconvenienced by these disruptions and seeking to better understand the timelines and impact can look to the comprehensive resources available. The city’s project engineer, Jack Sullivan, and project coordinator, Mark Fremder, are the appointed contacts, duly listed to provide information and address any arising concerns from the community. The 2024 Alley Reconstruction Newsletter and the project website serve as additional information highways for affected parties.
