A man has been taken into custody after a standoff with Michigan State Police following an alleged domestic assault in Dalton Township, Muskegon County. The incident, which began yesterday morning around 7 a.m., occurred in the 3000 block of S Riverwood Drive, as reported by WZZM13. According to the Michigan State Police, a family member was attacked by the suspect and sustained serious injuries before being transported to the hospital for medical treatment.
The standoff ensued when the suspect refused any form of cooperation with the law enforcement authorities and barricaded himself inside the property for several hours, during which MSP dispatched negotiators and an Emergency Support Team as well as a bomb squad that were unsuccessful at first in their attempts to reason with the man and persuade him to end the standoff peacefully.
Ultimately, the Michigan State Police obtained a warrant for the suspect's arrest, and officers entered the residence, employing flash-bang devices to safely apprehend the individual, as detailed by FOX 17. The suspect, now held at the Muskegon County Jail, faces a charge of assault with intent to do great bodily harm.
Information surrounding the nature of the relationship between the suspect and the victim has not been disclosed due to the ongoing investigation, but MSP Lt. Michelle Robinson expressed appreciation to the local community for their patience during the disturbance highlighting "it's a very quiet neighborhood and so anytime you have an incident like this it's very, very tragic for the citizens and the residents in the area," Robinson told WZZM13. She added, "So we thank you for your patience. And we just have our thoughts with the victim at this time that they make a speedy recovery from this incident."
