Law enforcement officials were able to swiftly apprehend a suspect following a freeway shooting incident in June. The shooting, which arose from a road rage confrontation, ended without injury but set off a search that concluded with the discovery of a significant firearm.
On the evening of June 16, a reported altercation on eastbound State Route 24 near Acalanes Road off-ramp in Lafayette escalated to gunfire, after which the assailant quickly departed the scene. The victim, who managed to steer clear of harm safely, provided detectives from the CHP's Special Investigations Unit with crucial information on the suspect's vehicle. This information ultimately helped to singularly identify Aaron Demetrius Davis Jr., a 30-year-old Oakland resident, as the suspect behind the attack.
Following investigative leads, officers executed search and arrest warrants on July 3 at two Oakland residences linked to Davis. According to the CHP Golden Gate Division, Davis was found at the first location and was arrested without incident. The searches of the properties yielded an array of firearms, highlighting the presence of an assault-style rifle, multiple pistols, and high-capacity magazines, an alarming cache indicative of the potential for greater violence.
Davis now faces serious felony charges, including attempted murder and assault with a firearm, among others. He is currently being held at Contra Costa County Jail. The CHP has affirmed its mission to uphold public safety and security.
