On Sunday evening, officers from the Milpitas Police Department apprehended a suspect following a high-speed chase that ended in Milpitas, thanks to the alert from an Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR). The ALPR flagged a pickup truck associated with an attempted homicide in Manteca earlier that day, leading to swift action by local law enforcement. The suspect, identified as Roberto Rodriguez of San Jose, was located by the Milpitas Police within one minute near S. Park Victoria Dr and Landess Ave.
According to Milpitas Police, upon noticing the authorities, Rodriguez tried to elude capture, which initiated a pursuit. After a chase, he was finally stopped and arrested, and the officers found evidence in his vehicle that linked him to the attempted murder. The Manteca Police Department, upon being notified, arrived at Milpitas to take custody of Rodriguez, who was eventually booked into the San Joaquin County Jail.
Rodriguez now faces serious charges, including attempted murder and potentially more charges in Santa Clara County for fleeing from officers and resisting arrest, as highlighted by the Milpitas Police Department. The incident has been touted as an example of how technology, coupled with the responsiveness of dispatchers and officers, can serve as a pivotal force in maintaining community safety.
