
In the early hours of Friday, the South Austin neighborhood in Chicago became a scene of sudden violence when gunfire erupted, leaving six people injured, including a teenager. According to the Chicago Tribune, the shooting occurred shortly before 1:45 A.M. on the 100 block of South Menard Avenue.
The incident unfolded when an exchange of bullets took place between two individuals, who subsequently fled the site, as reported by ABC 7 Chicago. Victims caught in the crossfire included an 18-year-old woman shot in the leg, and two 23-year-old men, one wounded in the leg and the other in the hip. A 20-year-old woman received a shot to her back, while a 25-year-old man sustained gunshots to his arm. Notably, among those injured was a 15-year-old boy, who suffered a gunshot wound to the back.
All victims were reported in good condition, except the 25-year-old man, who was listed in fair condition. They were taken to various hospitals—including Mount Sinai, West Suburban Medical Center, Loyola University Medical Center, and Stroger Hospital—for treatment, with no fatalities reported at this time.
As of now, authorities have not made any arrests in connection with the mass shooting, and Area Four detectives are currently investigating the incident. The motive behind the shootout remains unclear.
