
A tragic scenario unfolded in the Chatham neighborhood on Chicago's South Side late Sunday, when a confrontation escalated into gunfire, leaving one teenager dead and another wounded. According to CBS News, an 18-year-old male and a 16-year-old boy were involved in an argument on the street in the 700 block of East 89th Place around 11:50 p.m. that turned deadly as shots rang out.
The older teen was reportedly struck by bullets twice in the chest and was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries. The 16-year-old sustained gunshot wounds to his left and right thigh, police said. As of now, no one is in custody in connection with the shooting, as law enforcement officials continue their investigation into the incident.
As detailed by the Chicago Sun-Times, the younger teen was transported to the same hospital and was listed in fair condition. The circumstances leading up to the argument and subsequent shooting are still unclear, and Chicago police have not yet identified a suspect or motive behind the violence.
