Tragedy struck in northwest Atlanta as a 16-year-old boy was fatally shot on Hollywood Road, marking a continued pattern of violence in the area. The Atlanta Police Department confirmed the teenager's death after being called to the Reserve at Hollywood apartments on Wednesday afternoon, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta. The incident closed off the street to traffic while investigators sought to piece together the circumstances of the violent act.
The young victim, later identified as Maurice Weems by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office, was found with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite being rushed to the hospital in critical condition, he succumbed to his injuries. No arrests have been made, and the motive for the shooting remains a mystery, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Residents were advised to stay indoors as officers searched for a suspected shooter who reportedly fled into nearby woods.
The Reserve at Hollywood Apartments is no stranger to such incidents; a series of violent encounters have marred its recent history. Just last month, 21-year-old Jacquez Harris was found dead at the same complex, a victim of multiple gunshot wounds. Another altercation over Memorial Day weekend resulted in an arrest after a 61-year-old woman allegedly stabbed another woman.
Atlanta authorities are treating these cases with the utmost seriousness, endeavoring to unravel the threads that tie these events together. The APD's Homicide Division, which was called to the scene promptly after the shooting, continues to work diligently, seeking information from the public that could lead to the apprehension of those responsible. Anyone with knowledge that could assist in their ongoing investigations is urged to reach out to the Atlanta Police Department.
