Robertson County has been struck by a series of tragic water-related incidents over two days, resulting in three nearly simultaneous drownings, one of which ended in the death of a teenager. Smoky Barn News reported that the 16-year-old was mowing the lawn on his grandfather's New Hall Road property when his riding mower overturned, trapping him beneath it in a pond. Despite subsequent rescue efforts from family and emergency responders, the teen did not survive the ordeal.
This incident, the most recent of the three, highlighted an urgent need to always watch closely over our interaction with water. According to WSMV, the other drownings involved toddlers—a two-year-old who fell into a pool was resuscitated by their mother with CPR instructions from a 911 dispatch operator and is currently in good condition and a one-year-old who also was found in a pool and received life-saving CPR before being alert upon reaching the hospital.
Robertson County EMS Director Brent Dyer described the teenage victim's family as well-known and respected in the local community. He was found by his family following an unspecified period underwater. “This drowning incident involves a well-known and well-respected family in Robertson County,” Brent Dyer stated to WKRN. The loss of the teenager was one of three drowning emergencies over less than 48 hours.
As for the one-year-old girl, the quick intervention was to potentially avert more severe outcomes, including secondary drowning, which is a concern when someone inhales water into the lungs and might experience delayed respiratory distress. “These incidents are a sobering reminder of the importance of vigilance around water," read a statement in a release from Smokey Barn News.
