UC San Diego Health has been ranked as the preeminent hospital in San Diego and has secured a coveted spot on the U.S. News & World Report's "Honor Roll," placing it among the top echelon of hospitals nationwide, the academic health center announced yesterday. Scoring the top position in the region for the fifth straight year and landing on the national Honor Roll for the second consecutive time, the institution is among the 20 distinguished hospitals recognized in the annual "Best Hospitals" survey, according to UC San San Diego News.
UC San San Diego Health's CEO, Patty Maysent expressed pride in the organization's achievements, saying, as cited by UC San San Diego News, "Being named to the national 'Honor Roll' for the second consecutive year and No. 1 in the region for the fifth consecutive year underscores our unwavering commitment to excellence in patient care." According to the statement, this continuous recognition highlights the tireless efforts of their staff who "work tirelessly to ensure our patients receive the highest quality care possible." Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla also reinforced this sentiment, noting the "outstanding physicians, nurses, researchers and support teams" that drive the institution's success.
In the rigorous evaluation of more than 4,500 hospitals, the U.S. News & World Report measured performance across 15 specialties and 20 procedures and conditions, where UC San Diego Health notched national recognition in 11 medical and surgical specialties. These included top-50 rankings in high-stakes fields such as Pulmonology & Lung Surgery and Obstetrics & Gynecology, among others. Moreover, the health system was rated high performing in 18 additional procedures and conditions, outstripping any other hospital system in the San Diego area.
John M. Carethers, MD, vice chancellor for Health Sciences at UC San Diego, took pride in the institution's pioneering approach, reinforcing its status as a world-class academic medical center.
