The local community of Cedar Springs, along with law enforcement, continues to be engulfed in the disquieting search for Penelope "Penny" Wise, the 17-year-old who has been missing inaction since May 31. CBS Detroit reported that the Kent County Sheriff's Office is urging the public for assistance, noting that the last confirmed sighting of Wise was in the Rockford area, near the White Pine Trail.
While authorities believe Wise may have intentionally left her home near Morley Park, the lack of recent sightings has amplified worries about her state, especially as she has not been seen or heard from since the night of her disappearance when she was observed on security footage wearing a pink tank top and black shorts, and though a home surveillance camera on Rockford Park Drive recorded her path it did not provide clear answers about her destination. According to FOX 17, investigators have new surveillance footage from the Corner Bar in Rockford, which is currently not being released to the public.
The ongoing efforts to find Wise include deploying the Sheriff's Department's Mounted Unit, Trail Patrol, and Drone Unit, an initiative brought into focus by hoodline, which outlines the considerable resources devoted to this search. The teen is described as standing at five feet tall, weighing about 120 pounds, with blond hair and braces; these details have been disseminated hoping it will facilitate her identification and safe return.
Amidst these distressing circumstances, Penelope's mother, Mishael Wise, conveyed a heartfelt plea through WZZM13, stating, "We want her to know that we love her, we care for her." Her father, David Wise, also reached out to the community saying, "Any tip that you have, small, big, please send it in. We appreciate everything." A reward has been offered for information leading to Penny's whereabouts, with the Sheriff's Department and Silent Observer accepting tips at 616-632-6125 and 616-774-2345, respectively. The investigators press the issue that the privacy of tipsters can be assured, for those who might hesitate in coming forward.
