The community of Vacaville honors the life and service of fallen Officer Matthew Bowen today, as the Vacaville Police Department holds a memorial service at The Father's House Church. While the ceremony at 10:30 a.m. is closed to the public, those wishing to pay their respects can watch the service streamed live, as per an announcement mentioned on FOX40. The procession that follows will take a route through the city, including Vaca Valley Parkway, Browns Valley Parkway, E Monte Vista Ave., Alamo Drive, and Nut Tree Rd., ultimately concluding at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.
Officer Bowen perished in the line of duty earlier this month, following an incident during a traffic stop. The Vacaville Police Department has received an outpouring of community support. "THANK YOU for all of the support you’ve given over the past several days. We appreciate everyone who has donated, dropped off food, prayed and shared all of the fundraisers happening in the community to support the Bowen’s," the officer's association expressed their gratitude, aiming to securely envelop their fallen comrade’s memory with tributes befitting his sacrifice.
Matthew Bowen, who was 32, joined the Vacaville Police Department in June 2023 after a stint with the Concord Police Department. His service has been marked by dedication, leaving behind a wife and two sons. His loss is a palpable void in the Vacaville community, felt deeply by those who knew him and those he served.
Solano County District Attorney's Office has charged 24-year-old Serena Rodriguez of Auburn with the murder of Officer Bowen. According to Hoodline, apart from the murder charge, there is a special circumstance allegation that Officer Bowen was intentionally killed while performing his duties. Rodriguez lastly appeared in court for her arraignment on July 22 and is currently being held without bail.
