The City of Vacaville Police Department announced the death of Officer Matthew Bowen, who was struck by a vehicle during a routine traffic stop yesterday morning. Officer Bowen was engaged in his police duties near the intersection of Leisure Town Road and Orange Drive in Vacaville when the incident occurred, as confirmed by the City of Vacaville Police Department.
The driver involved in the collision was arrested and is currently in custody. Despite the quick response and the efforts of the emergency responders, Officer Bowen was declared deceased after being transported to Kaiser Hospital. Appointed to the City of Vacaville on June 13, 2023, Officer Bowen had previously served with the City of Concord Police Department. He leaves behind his wife, two sons, and other immediate family members, deeply mourned by the community and his colleagues.
Vacaville Police Chief Ian Schmutzler is scheduled for a public statement at 6:30 PM at the Vacaville Police Department, located at 660 Merchant Street, as announced by the City of Vacaville Police Department.
