As students and parents across northern Michigan prepare to jump back into the school year, Verizon Wireless stores are stepping up to lighten the load on families facing the financial burden of back-to-school shopping. Set to distribute free backpacks to those in need, the Verizon stores in locales that include Benzonia, Traverse City, Manistee, and Mio are part of a larger corporate initiative spearheaded by Round Room LLC, a Verizon-authorized retailer.
With the cost of school supplies continuing to climb, events such as Verizon's "School Rocks Backpack Giveaway" help to nearly alleviate an average financial pressure estimated now at $890 for families gearing up for the back-to-school season. According to an article posted by WZZM13, Verizon stores in West Michigan alone are set to give away $3 million worth of backpacks.
This philanthropic effort is mirrored nationwide, with more than 120,000 students expected to benefit from the 12th installment of this annual giveaway. As reported by WOODTV, Round Room's "Schools Rock Backpack Giveaway" will unfold at 1,200 participating locations. This initiative is more than just a handout of free backpacks; it’s a community-enriching event complete with family-friendly activities, ensuring attendees not only walk away with a tangible item but also with an enjoyable experience.
Adding to the excitement of the affair are clear backpack options catering to specific school district requirements and the chance to possibly win more than just a backpack. "All at the same time, on the same Sunday afternoon, there’s a simultaneous period of giving at our TCC and Wireless Zone stores around the country," a representative of the giveaway articulated in a statement obtained by UPNorthLive. Golden Ruler keychains hidden in select backpacks at 10 random locations work to further enable recipients to potentially receive a $100 Visa gift card and the school they attend a $1,000 Amazon Wishlist Buyout.
