Residents and travelers in the Phoenix area should prepare for a series of freeway closures this weekend due to improvement projects as announced by the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT). The Southbound I-17 will be closed at Jomax Road starting from 9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday, July 15th. The closure is part of a pavement improvement project, with detouring to be facilitated via Jomax Road off- and on-ramps, according to ADOT.
Additionally, the Southbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane between Loop 303/Sonoran Desert Drive and Jomax Road, and east-, and westbound Jomax Road will be closed at I-17. ADOT urges travelers to allow for extra travel time and to be ready for merging traffic. They have cautioned against using streets east of I-17 as they are intended for local traffic only.
In a similar vein, the Northbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway) will see closures between the Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) in Chandler and US 60 (Superstition Freeway) in Tempe from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for a pavement improvement project. As an alternative, motorists are encouraged to use the westbound I-10 and eastbound US 60 to reconnect with northbound Loop 101.
