A Friday evening shooting in West Nashville has tragically cut a life short and cast a somber mood over the community. Metro police are actively searching for four suspects involved in the death of 35-year-old Jorge Noel Cruz-Garcia. Witnesses described a chaotic scene with 40 to 50 shell casings found on-site, as reported by WKRN. The incident occurred just after 6:30 p.m. near La Hispana Bakery on Charlotte Pike.
Rafael Winston, a resident of West Nashville for 15 years, was across the street when the gunfire erupted. "It's shocking to see it, because you don't see that every day," Winston told WSMV. "Then you realize how dangerous it really is to be in the vicinity of something like that." The violence has surely to shake the residents, unaccustomed to this level of crime in their neighborhood.
The Metro Nashville Police Department has characterized the killing as a targeted attack. A news release on Saturday announced a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to arrests. According to details released by authorities and covered by The Tennessean, the gunmen confronted Cruz-Garcia outside a market on 6208 Charlotte Pike and shot him as he attempted to get to his car before pursuing and shooting him again on the ground across the street.
The local community is now grappling with the repercussions of gun violence on their doorstep. "Bullets don't have names on them, so when shots ring out like that, you just want to take cover," Winston further expressed during a WSMV interview. The owner of La Hispana Bakery, where Cruz-Garcia was a regular customer, shared with WKRN her heartbreak over the incident occurring in her parking lot. The police is urging anyone with information to step forward and contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463, in hopes of swiftly bringing those responsible to justice.
