Last Wednesday night, Boston's District E-18 police officers took into custody a man, identified as Gesner Joseph, who was allegedly in possession of a loaded firearm. According to the Boston Police Department, the arrest occurred around 9:48 PM near 147 West Street in Hyde Park, where Joseph, a 22-year-old West Roxbury resident, was reported for refusing to pay for a tow service and subsequently threatening the victim with a gun. In an update given by Boston Police, a description of the suspect was circulated, depicting Joseph as being potentially armed and dangerous.
Upon arriving, officers were met with the suspect who allegedly claimed to shoot the victim should he fail to receive his car. They approached Joseph and courteously asked him to slowly remove his hands from his pockets, which he did. A pat-down was conducted, and officers quickly retrieved a Sig Sauer P365 from Joseph's right pant pocket, along with a loaded magazine from the left. The discovered weapon was confirmed to hold eleven rounds.
Jospeh now faces charges that include Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, as stated by the police department. These allegations point to a troubling instance where public safety was directly threatened by the presence of an easily concealable and ready-to-use firearm on the streets. Joseph's arraignment is scheduled at the West Roxbury District Court, where the gravity of these charges will formally be set before a judge.
