An enforcement surge addressing a spate of agricultural crimes has led to the arrest of 28 individuals in Camarillo and Oxnard. According to the Ventura County Sheriff's Office, deputies from the Camarillo Police Department, Camarillo Special Enforcement Unit, and West County Special Enforcement Unit converged on the unincorporated regions across these areas from August 16-18, specifically targeting vehicle thefts, burglaries, and larcenies beleaguering local farms.
In a news release prepared by Sergeant Adam Garnier, recovering two stolen vehicles during the operation was stated, which was a direct response to a notable uptick in similar crimes throughout August 2024. Initially hitting a roadblock due to the remote locales and a scarcity of witnesses, the collaborative efforts between deputies and investigators led to the arrests. Subjects were discovered in possession of suspected pilfered property related to recent burglaries.
While this marked an achievement for local law enforcement, the investigation remains active, with the anticipation of future arrests. The authorities have taken this moment to caution the farming community on preventative measures. Recommendations include the removal and concealment of keys to farming equipment, alongside utilizing the Owner Applied Number system to track potentially stolen assets.
The Sheriff's Office underlines the importance of community involvement in these situations, urging anyone with knowledge of the crimes or suspect identities to contact the Camarillo Investigations Bureau at 805-388-5100.
In the wake of these developments, witnesses observing suspicious behavior are encouraged to report to the Sheriff’s Communication Center at 805-654-9511 or phone 911, so deputies can investigate such incidents promptly.
