An 86-year-old woman from Ann Arbor was fatally injured after being hit by a car last weekend. The Detroit News reports that the incident occurred last Saturday morning at the intersection of Barber and Ravenwood Avenues near M-14 and Dexter Road. According to police, the victim was found unresponsive and received life-saving attempts at the scene before being transported to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Local law enforcement responded to the scene after the crash was reported around 12:22 a.m. As stated by the City of Ann Arbor Police Department, officers found the pedestrian not responsive in the roadway and immediately initiated CPR. Huron Valley Ambulance and Ann Arbor Fire Department arrived shortly after and continued life-saving measures before the woman was rushed to the University of Michigan Medical Center Emergency Department.
The driver of the car, a 22-year-old woman also from Ann Arbor, stayed at the scene and is said to be cooperating with the authorities, as noted by Ann Arbor Police. While notable details regarding the circumstances of the crash have not been fully disclosed, WWJ Newsradio communicated that the pedestrian was struck by a single vehicle as she was walking in the roadway.
Authorities have confirmed that the identity of the victim has not been released, and it appears that alcohol was not a factor in this tragic event. In sustaining life-threatening injuries and despite the immediate medical response she received, the elderly woman's life sadly came to an end following the crash, as the hospital could only pronounce her death following their earnest efforts to save her, according to police.
