Arlington is setting into motion a new construction project aimed at overhauling its storm drain systems to combat neighborhood flooding and improve its drainage infrastructure. The Public Works Department's Stormwater Management Division has announced the commencement of the 2020 Stormwater Maintenance Project, which is poised to bring significant improvements to Blake Aston Drive, Tennyson Drive, and the Westview Channel.

Commencing soon, the initiative will feature essential enhancements such as maintenance and improvement of the storm drain system from Blake Ashton Drive to Russell Curry Road south of Fox Chase Drive, replacement of the flume, pipe, and inlet in the same area, and rehabilitation of the storm drain alongside construction of access junction boxes, according to the City of Arlington. The project's completion date is projected for July 2025, as Arlington prioritizes the safety and welfare of its residential landscapes.

Along Tennyson Drive, residents can anticipate the maintenance and improvement of the area's storm drain system extending to W. Second Street. This leg of the project extends into the repaving of Wellington Court cul-de-sac, portions of Westview Terrace, and a part of W Second Street impaired by the stormwater upgrades. The work will also include a replacement of water and sanitary sewer lines affected by the construction activity.

For the Westview Channel part, efforts will be geared towards fixing prior erosion protection measures along sensitive sections extending between Westview Terrace and Briarwood Boulevard. This comprehensive project encapsulates the City Council's allegiance to Champion Great Neighborhoods, striving to fortify the bones of the city to stand resilient against the wrath, of nature's less-predictable moments.
