A tragic collision claimed the life of a Nashville woman and has left others grappling with injuries and legal fallout in the wake of the incident. The Nashville Police Department reports that Nicholas Sterling, a 23-year-old from Ashland City, collided with a Ford Focus on Charlotte Pike at Old Hickory Boulevard on Sunday evening; he is now facing charges of vehicular homicide and vehicular assault.
According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, Kendall Cartwright, 38, of Nashville, who was driving the Ford Focus, was pronounced dead at the scene, while her male passenger, who remains unidentified, was critically injured and is receiving care at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Further details reveal a grim scene – Sterling, while operating the dump truck, reportedly ran through a flashing red light and collided with the Focus; officers responding to the call detected an odor of alcohol on Sterling's breath, and an open beer bottle was visible in the truck’s floorboard, following the accident, he received treatment for minor injuries before being taken into custody and booked with his bond set at $40,000, as per the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.
