Chaos erupted at the Escondido Transit Center last night when a man with a knife attacked and stabbed an MTS bus driver during an attempted robbery. The suspect was arrested shortly after the incident, which occurred around 8:48 PM. The police received a 911 call about a man threatening people at the transit hub before he boarded the bus and attacked the driver, according to the Escondido Police Department.
Police searched the area and found the suspect, Mario Joseph Felix, hiding behind a Barnes and Noble bookstore. After a struggle, they used less lethal measures to take him into custody. The bus driver, who suffered stab wounds to the torso, was treated on the scene by paramedics and later transported to Palomar Medical Center, where he is now in stable condition.
Video evidence and the discovery of the knife near the arrest site revealed that Felix had demanded the driver's wallet before the assault. Felix, a 50-year-old transient with a criminal history and currently on probation, now faces charges of attempted murder and robbery.
