In the heart of downtown Austin, in the early hours of the morning, an incident occurred that led to the death of a woman, now being investigated as the city's 41st homicide of the year as per KXAN. The Austin Police Department responded to a call around 1:38 a.m. near the 500 block of East 6th Street, after being flagged down by a passerby, a woman was subsequently found who appeared to be suffering from injuries, later dying at a local hospital.
As the morning unfolded, it became apparent that this was more than a simple emergency, turning into a full-blown homicide investigation, according to FOX 7 Austin, APD has already taken a person of interest into custody for questioning, albeit details about any possible connection to the victim have not yet been disclosed as this is still an ongoing investigation.
Local authorities were seen on the scene early Monday morning where crime scene tape cordoned off an alley near Neches Street and E. 6th Street. With efforts to collect evidence underway, APD officers are working to secure surveillance footage from the area to aid in their analysis of the crime.
Despite the severity of the incident, APD has expressed their belief that the homicide was an isolated event, thus asserting there is no ongoing threat to the public at large, this assurance offers a semblance of peace in the wake of turmoil.
