
Avon Community School Corporation reported an incident involving a student displaying a handgun on a school bus en route to Avon Intermediate School East. Following the morning event, school administrators and Avon School Police were alerted by two students, which led to the confiscation of the firearm, as FOX59 reported. The school district confirmed that no threats were made by the student in question.
The handgun was confiscated and the student was removed from the school property. The district emphasized their commitment to safety and cited the importance of community vigilance, praising the students who came forward to report the incident. The school day continued without further disruption following the event, according to a statement obtained by WTHR.
Kevin Carr, Avon Schools communication coordinator, detailed that the school district plans to conduct a full investigation and will take appropriate discipline against the student involved. He reiterated there were no threats made and the regular school schedule resumed as usual, as reported by IndyStar.
School officials made contact with families and staff to keep them apprised of the situation and to reassure them of the district's highest priority being the safety and well-being of its students and staff.
