The Blaine Economic Development Authority (EDA), which holds the deed to this dormant estate, is calling on residents to share their visions for its rebirth.
Once home to the humming shells of commerce like K-Mart, the surrounding structures found rejuvenation not in demolition but in renovation, leaving the adjacent lots barren among renewed retail neighbors. The EDA seized the parcels in the late 2000s/early 2010s with prospects of a grand renewal, according to civic records. Yet, as the tide of commerce ebbed and flowed, these plots remained untouched, suspended in time.
Blaine completed an overarching study for the Northtown Mall area in 2022, identifying a cornucopia of possibilities for these parcels, ranging from the brick-and-mortar bones of townhomes to bustling commercial endeavors.
