As the Boerne Independent School District prepares for the rush of a new academic year beginning August 12, they've made safety a priority by announcing the assignments of its school resource officers (SROs) earlier this week. According to a report by My Boerne News, the district has partnered with the Boerne Police Department, the Fair Oaks Ranch Police Department, and the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office to station 16 SROs across its schools, with each school having its dedicated officer.
In the Boerne PD alone, 10 officers have been designated for roles that culture trust and forge a sense of security among students, teachers, and parents. Among the officers assigned, Sgt. Bo Patton will be posted at Boerne Academy/18+ and Cpl. David Chavez will serve at two locations: Boerne Middle School North and again at Boerne Middle School North, tasked with safeguarding the halls where our youth seek education. The SROs are seasoned patrol officers boasting hundreds of additional hours in specialized training including school safety, juvenile law, and the enforcement specifics of the Texas Education Code.
The costs of the program are shared between the school district and the City. Officers for the remaining school campuses hail from various law enforcement agencies, ensuring each school under the BISD canopy is under the watchful eye of SRO.
