In a notable display of police work enhanced by canine acumen, the Boston Police Department recently reported the arrest of a Fall River man on multiple firearm and trespassing charges. According to the Boston Police Department, officers assigned to District B-3 in Mattapan encountered three individuals exhibiting suspicious behavior during a routine patrol around Almont Park, a popular area for sports and recreation.

As officers drew closer to the group on Orlando St., one man, later identified as Michael McGee, 19, of Fall River, separated from the rest and proceeded into a backyard after noticing the police presence. The officers recognized McGee and aware he had an outstanding arrest warrant, initiated a stop. Despite detaining McGee, the backpack he was seen with originally vanished.

A subsequent search for the missing backpack was conducted with the aid of K-9 officers. K-9 Juno, trained in firearm detection, signaled a positive alert for the presence of a firearm in a backpack in the yard of a neighboring property. Inside the backpack, officers discovered two firearms: a Smith and Wesson M&P 40 loaded with ten cartridges and a Glock 34 9mm loaded with sixteen cartridges.

Following the discovery, McGee was arrested and is slated for arraignment in Dorchester District Court on multiple counts, including possession of a firearm without an FID card and carrying a firearm without a license. With the help of K-9 units, officers were able to recover a backpack containing illegally possessed weapons. McGee also faces additional charges related to an arrest warrant for vehicular violations.
