In an unsettling event in Boynton Beach, authorities have taken a man into custody following the fatal shooting of his husband yesterday evening. CBS12 reports that during a 911 call at approximately 9:40 p.m., a dispatcher heard moaning and a single gunshot before the line went silent. The call was later traced back to the victim's phone. George John Bereska Jr., 66, was subsequently apprehended and is now facing a charge of first-degree murder with a firearm.
Shortly after the initial call, Bereska contacted the Boynton Beach Police Department himself. He admitted to having an intense argument with his husband and told the dispatcher, "he's dead," after saying he had shot his husband in the chest. Upon arrival at his home, located near the Boynton Leisureville Community Association, the police discovered the victim's naked body in the kitchen, covered in blood with several gunshot wounds, as WPTV News Channel 5 disclosed.
The crime scene was described as containing three bullet shell casings—one in the living room and two in the kitchen—and a Taurus firearm placed on the dining table. No signs of physical struggle were apparent in the scene, as detectives noted the absence of displaced furniture or items in disarray. Arrest reports indicated that Bereska neither had injuries nor blood on his clothing at the time of detainment.
While in custody at the Boynton Beach Police Department, Bereska claimed he was intoxicated and experienced a "blackout" since around 6 p.m., failing to recall any event that occurred, as per details obtained by CBS12. However, detectives observed that, while he was allowed to use the restroom, he showed no signs of intoxication—casting doubt on his claim of being inebriated during the confrontation with his husband.
