Commuters on Atlanta's Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) Gold Line will need to adjust their travel plans this fall, as the Brookhaven Station is set for closure from October 7 through November 15 for upgrades. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, during this time, Gold Line trains will bypass the Brookhaven Station while crews work on extensive platform improvements.

To mitigate the impact on travelers, MARTA will offer shuttle bus services connecting Brookhaven with the Lenox Station to the south and Chamblee Station to the north. These shuttle services come as a vital alternative for passengers who rely on transit daily. As reported by Urbanize Atlanta, the regular local bus routes that include numbers 8, 25, 47, and 110 will continue to operate as per usual schedule, providing additional public transport options.

The renovation project focuses on replacing the deteriorating platform pavers, installing new tile flooring, tactile warning strips for improved safety, and adding new benches and trash cans. Infrastructure improvements also include the concrete being pressure washed, sealed, and coated with a graffiti-resistant finish, promoting a clean and maintained environment for the commuters.

Officials have noted that by closing the station completely to expedite the repair work, the project timeline is significantly reduced by nearly two years and costs are slashed by approximately $9 million. Parking and tunnel access will still be available on both sides of the station during the renovation period, ensuring minimal disruption to those who utilize the station's facilities. In a statement obtained by FOX 5 Atlanta, MARTA has encouraged commuters to use the parking available at nearby Lenox, Chamblee, or Doraville stations.
