Brooklyn Park residents with a cache of building materials cluttering their garages and basements have an upcoming chance to clear out space and contribute to a good cause. According to a bulletin from the City of Brooklyn Park, a donation event is scheduled for Saturday, September 14, where locals can give away their unused, but still useful, building materials to Better Futures Minnesota.
The event, taking place from 9:00 am to noon at the Operations & Maintenance Facility at 8300 Noble Ave., encourages community members to partake in an act of both environmental responsibility and social contribution. Items that will be happily accepted, at Better Futures Minnesota’s discretion, range from kitchen cabinets and stone countertops to hardwood flooring and electric tools, as detailed by the City of Brooklyn Park. However, not all donations can be taken, the nonprofit will refuse materials deemed unusable or not on their accepted list.
To ensure quality and the resale potential, representatives from Better Futures Minnesota will be on hand to vet all donations. Acceptable materials include a specific list outlined in their recent post, stating that cabinetry, doors, certain types of flooring, and various hardware and tools are welcome, among other items. Contributions such as appliances, furniture, and various hazardous materials like aerosols and mercury thermostats, however, will be turned away.
A full list of accepted and non-accepted items can be found in the City of Brooklyn Park's bulletin.
