A Carroll County man is under arrest following allegations of an abhorrent assault on an elderly family member. The Carroll County Sheriff's Office responded to a grim scenario at a residence in Carrollton on August 5. The victim, described as an 81-year-old woman, was purportedly raped by a family member, igniting a series of events that would lead to an arrest.
After a relative brought the senior woman to Tanner Carrollton Emergency Department, the harrowing details began to slowly unravel. The incident was reported to have occurred in the victim's own home, where she initially seemed to have been mistaken for falling in the night. Revealed by FOX 5 Atlanta, the relative who took her to the hospital discovered the bedroom door locked and managed to gain entry after about five minutes. Inside, they witnessed William Robertson, sweating profusely and made claims of merely attempting to locate a lost television remote before departing downstairs to drink alcohol.
Medical staff attending to the elderly woman confirmed the severity of the situation, noting that her physical state was consistent with a sexual assault. As per the story told by Times-Georgian, the woman, partially clothed and bleeding, indicated that Robertson was the perpetrator of the rape. This medical assessment further substantiated the claims against him.
Authorities conducted a search for Robertson but found he had left the scene. They were able to apprehend him hidden beneath the porch of a vacant house nearby. Robertson now faces charges of rape, incest, and exploitation of an elder. Currently, he remains in custody as investigations into this disturbing event are to painfully continue.
