In the wake of a tragic accident that claimed three lives on a segment of Interstate 70 near Ward Road in Wheat Ridge, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is implementing new safety measures, as per 9NEWS and Denver7. The changes include a reduction of the speed limit from 60 to 55 miles per hour and the installation of new signage equipped with flashing beacons to enhance visibility.

Following a comprehensive evaluation by CDOT traffic engineers who decided lower speed could potentially curb future incidents Joe Trussell, co-owner of CDL303 Trucking School said, "Our overall goal is to get everyone home safe every night," as noted by 9NEWS, expressing a sentiment of communal responsibility and care for every traveler's well-being. The revamped signage is expected to be in place by Labor Day weekend, offering clearer warnings to motorists about the forthcoming lane shift and reduced speed ahead, which currently gets highlighted twice before motorists reach the construction zone.

Despite CDOT's confidence in their safety protocols, some skepticism remains regarding the effectiveness of minor speed adjustments. A driver named Howard suggested, "They need to slow down to like, 45 miles per hour," underscoring a community sentiment that simply reducing the limit by 5 MPH might not suffice for the safety of a construction zone, "It's only going to work if people actually abide by it which a lot of people don't," remarked another unnamed driver, addressing the importance of driver compliance with the set speed limits, according to CBS News.
