The City of Chandler is extending an open invitation to its residents for a series of public workshops to discuss the future of its downtown region. These fall meetings are part of a broader effort to update the Downtown Region Area Plan, ensuring that it reflects both current realities and the aspirations of those who dwell and do business there. According to a recent city announcement, the workshops are designed to garner community input and collectively craft a vision for growth and development that speaks truly to the city's evolving core.
Those eager to contribute can mark their calendars for the "Visioning: Help Shape Chandler’s Downtown Region" workshops, scheduled for August at the Downtown Chandler Library, details the city announcement. Here, city staff and the project consultant plan to quickly provide an overview before breaking into groups to dive more deeply into discussions. The gathering on August 17, from 9 a.m. to noon, will also deliver an update on the Washington Street alignment between 9-10 a.m. Additionally, a subsequent workshop will take place on August 19 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. for those unable to attend the weekend session.
Residents who cannot make it to these August sessions need not worry as more outreach meetings are on the books for September 7 and 10, and November 15 and 16, with pertinent details on these future sessions to be released in due course. Further, for those preferring digital participation, the city has also made available an online questionnaire to collect feedback, accessible through the Downtown Region Update portal.
Chandler's updated plan will be a blend of the existent South Arizona Avenue Plan and the Chandler Redevelopment Element; legacy documents that date back to 2006 (and a follow-up amendment in 2008) and 1995, respectively. This revision aims to integrate past and present in a manner that reflects the evolution of downtown Chandler. For additional information about these initiatives, or to sign up for email updates, interested parties can navigate to the Downtown Region Update website.
