Exploring career options is crucial for high school students, and the city of Charlotte's Mayor's Youth Employment Program (MYEP) is opening new doors for young individuals like senior Sharvil D. of Providence High School. Through his summer internship with American Airlines, Sharvil was able to get firsthand experience in various facets of the airline industry, from the tarmac to the command center. His stint included roles in catering, baggage handling, and operations, providing a well-rounded glimpse into the field.
Sharvil's time with American Airlines wasn't just about learning the ropes of the industry; it was also a chance to significantly improve his communication skills. This, he believes, is key to enhancing the customer experience. "Even if you do not like what you are doing, it will help you figure out what you don't want to do, which is equally important," Sharvil said, according to the news release from the City of Charlotte.
Sharvil's journey is one of the many stories emerging from the MYEP, the program is a part of Charlotte’s larger initiative to prepare the youth for future employment. It aims to not only offer real-world work experience but also to build a workforce that is ready and capable of stepping into roles that contribute to the growth of the local economy.
