
In the early hours of Thursday morning, an attempted train robbery was thwarted by Chicago police in the Englewood neighborhood on the city's South Side. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, officers arrived on the scene at around 1:30 a.m. in the 6300 block of South Wentworth Avenue. They found four men transferring stolen goods from a train to a truck.
The responding officers encountered the suspects during a burglary response, which led to a quick pursuit once, the men attempted to flee the area. All four suspects were apprehended following a brief chase. The police retrieved 39 flat-screen TVs from the truck, which the men had removed from the train, as per the Chicago Sun-Times. Charges were pending at the time of reporting.
A surveillance video obtained by WGN-TV has provided additional context to the incident, revealing the suspects using a hole in a fence to access the train tracks near a gas station. The video depicted the group returning to a beige pick-up truck with the TVs, only to be surprised by police not long after a black sedan arrived on the scene.
The police said, all 39 flat-screen TVs were recovered at the scene and the investigation remains under the purview of Area One detectives, as detailed by WGN-TV.
