Residents of the 12th District (Near West), particularly those on beats 1214, are urged to heighten their vigilance following multiple incidents of burglary forcible entry. According to the Chicago Police Department, a series of break-ins occurred in the dark quiet that blankets the early morning hours, where a male suspect has been using a pry tool to access storage containers and garages, fleeing thereafter with bicycles and sports equipment.
The noted incidents, particularly distressing for those having peace shattered in the sanctity of their properties, took place in the 600 block of North Ogden Ave., the 600 block of North Racine Ave., and the 1100 block of West Ohio St. They were reported to have occurred between late Wednesday night, August 7th, and early Thursday morning, August 8th, as detailed by the Chicago Police Department. The offender, spotted arriving on a mountain bike, has been described as a Hispanic male in his early twenties, sporting long wavy hair and dressed in a black T-shirt and shorts—either blue jeans or cargo—with distinctive black and white gym shoes.
Citizens are being asked to keep an eye out for individuals that match the description, especially those riding about, possibly surveying properties to target. In a situation where a resident encounters the suspect, the police advise maintaining composure and not engaging. If something appears amiss, people shouldn't touch anything potentially disturbed by the intruder and should contact the authorities promptly.
The Chicago Police are asking anyone who witnesses a crime or falls victim to one to dial 911 immediately and provide a detailed account of the offender, including, if applicable, any vehicle descriptions and license plate numbers. "If you are a victim, try not touch anything and contact the police immediately," says the alert, emphasizing the importance of preserving the scene. Witnesses to any such incidents are encouraged to stay onsite when possible or, at minimum, ensure officers can reach them later for further questioning.
