A security guard at a South Loop Jewel-Osco has been charged with felony and misdemeanor offenses after an altercation escalated into gunfire outside the grocery store on Thursday night. Alandrias Willis, 31, was involved in a dispute that transitioned from verbal to physical with two other men inside the establishment located at 1224 S. Wabash Ave., as confirmed by Chicago police to Chicago Sun-Times. The conflict happened shortly after 9 p.m., but fortunately, no individuals were reported to be physically harmed by the gunfire.
Following the in-store confrontation, Willis purportedly chased the pair outside and proceeded to recklessly discharge his firearm in their direction, as per the Chicago police report referenced by CWB Chicago. In addition to the gunfire, court records also accuse Willis of physically striking one of the men.
Willis is facing charges that include reckless discharge of a firearm, a felony, and misdemeanor counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and battery. Officers arriving on the scene were able to take the security guard into custody without further incident.
During an initial court appearance on Friday afternoon, Judge William Fahy released Willis. According to prosecutors, as reported by CWB Chicago, the judge's decision effectively allows Willis to walk free until his upcoming court date, which is scheduled for August 8.
