
A child was struck by a vehicle early this morning outside Wesley International Academy located on Memorial Drive SE, in the Capital Gateway neighborhood of Atlanta. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the incident occurred in the 200 block of the said street and the student from Wesley International Academy is currently in stable condition after being transported to a local hospital.
Handling the situation promptly, the Atlanta Police Department reported that the child was "alert, conscious, and breathing" after the incident. Importantly, the driver involved remained at the scene, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta. The Atlanta Fire Rescue, in a separate statement, confirmed the victim's stable condition and added that the accident occurred just after 8 a.m. "The driver is uninjured. Grady EMS was enroute to the scene as our crews were checking on the child and driver," AFR detailed, as noted by 11Alive.
While the specifics of the events leading to the accident are still under investigation, the communities' immediate response illustrates a protocol meant to protect and sustain life in the midst of unforeseen trauma.
