Early Sunday morning, an incident on the 5 Freeway in Los Angeles resulted in the hospitalization of a California Highway Patrol officer. According to ABC7, the accident occurred just before 3:30 a.m., near the Newhall Pass and the intersection with the 14 Freeway. The officer was attending to a disabled vehicle when he was struck by a black Tesla.
The aftermath of the collision was captured by OC Hawk's footage, revealing a black Tesla with a cracked windshield and another vehicle that sustained damage to its side. Multiple individuals were handcuffed at the scene, although the connection to the incident has not been made clear by the California Highway Patrol, as reported by KTLA. Southbound lanes were shut down, affecting traffic near the 14 connector.
In the wake of the event, the officer was promptly taken to Providence Holy Cross Hospital. There, the details concerning the severity of the injuries remain undisclosed. As the situation was developing, the southbound lanes of the 5 Freeway were closed from the 210 Freeway interchange down through Balboa Boulevard, which CBS Los Angeles expected would persist for several hours during the ongoing investigation.
While the investigation is underway, authorities mentioned that the driver of the Tesla remained at the scene, cooperating with responding officers. No further details about potential charges or arrests have been released.
