The Chula Vista community is grappling with a recent tragedy after a 23-year-old woman was fatally shot. Authorities have identified the victim as Genesis Burgueno, a Chula Vista resident believed to be unhoused. The Chula Vista Police Department is actively seeking information on the incident, which occurred late on July 18.
According to the Chula Vista Police Department, officers responded to a call on the 200 Block of C Street, just west of the Woodland Hills Apartments at 295 C Street, where they discovered Burgueno with a severe gunshot wound. Despite life-saving attempts by the officers and subsequently by medics, Burgueno succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The man found with her was interviewed, however, no suspect information has been released, and, authorities do not believe there is a continued threat to the general public.
