Early this morning in Citrus Heights, firefighters faced a challenging blaze in a duplex on Sperry Drive, near San Juan Avenue. Two individuals sustained injuries in the incident, one of them critically, in the fire that broke out just before the clock rounded on 8 a.m. CBS News Sacramento reports that Metro Fire of Sacramento crews arrived to find the home engulfed in flames.
Amidst the smoke and fire, rescuers managed to pull one victim from the flames. The individual was subsequently taken to a hospital with severe burn and smoke injuries. In a different kind of escape, another resident extricated themselves but still suffered burns in the ordeal. Parker Wilbourn with Sac Metro Fire told KCRA, "At lot of fire. This thing could have gotten a lot worse but we took aggressive action and halted it."
Both articles mentioned the rescue of an animal, with Wilbourn confirming that crews also successfully rescued a dog from the fiery scene. Thankfully, the dog appeared to be unharmed amidst the chaos and confusion. As for the hospital-bound victim, Wilbourn assured concerned parties that the individual "is awake and talking," as mentioned on KCRA.
The cause behind the fire remains unknown, with investigations ongoing to unearth the origin of this domestic disaster. While the damage has undoubtedly been done, with the fabric of a home charred and the flesh of its residents burned, the community breathes a sigh of relief that lives were largely spared. "At lot of fire. This thing could have gotten a lot worse but we took aggressive action and halted it," echoed Wilbourn to KCRA, a testament to the swift and decisive actions of the firefighters that day.
