
A tragic hit-and-run incident that occurred on Tuesday night in College Park has resulted in the death of a 53-year-old male pedestrian. The College Park Police Department confirmed the fatality, which took place at the intersection of Old National Highway and Godby Road around 9:13 p.m., as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta.
Responding to the scene shortly after the incident were College Park police officers, who found the victim lying unresponsive on the ground. Efforts to save the man, including CPR performed by the officers until Fire & Rescue teams took over, proved futile as he was pronounced dead at the location. The Georgia State Patrol has now taken the helm of the investigation into the crash, according to 11Alive.
Evidence gathered thus far suggests the man was crossing the intersection when he was hit by a black SUV traveling northbound. The driver of the SUV fled the scene before police could arrive and has not been identified. As the case remains ongoing, authorities are seeking assistance from anyone who may have witnessed the accident or has relevant information to come forward.
The identity of the deceased has not been released, pending notification to next of kin. Georgia State Patrol, alongside the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office, responded to the tragic scene and are putting together the pieces of this puzzle.
